TIM signs deal with unions to lose 4,500 staff and cut hours

TIM’s employees have agreed a 10% reduction in working hours and redundancies for 4,500 of them.

The company, formerly Telecom Italia, and four trade unions representing 30,000 employees in Italy, signed what they called “defensive solidarity contracts” that will involve all departments “apart from personnel carrying out business activities with particular need for operational continuity”.

Amos Genish, CEO of TIM, said: “We are pleased to have reached such an important agreement with the trade unions. I want to thank the national and local trade union representatives who have once again demonstrated that they care as much about what happens to the company and to the DigiTIM Strategic Plan as they do about the workers.”

The agreement between TIM and the unions will last a year. Earlier this week the Italian regulator AGCom said it was starting a consultation about TIM’s network separation plan.

TIM said it would provide “strong levels of support for the 4,500 colleagues whose jobs are being made redundant”. TIM staff who have accrued the minimum requirements for their pension by 31 December 2025 will be able to retire early, on a voluntary basis, the company added.
