PAIX and NSIA to develop data centres in Africa

PAIX Data Centres and NSIA Technologies, the technology services provider, are to jointly develop carrier neutral data centres in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire and Dakar, Senegal.

The new carrier-neutral data centres will operate under the PAIX brand, and the joint venture will acquire NSIA Technologies’ existing Abidjan centre as develop a second data centre in Dakar, Senegal.

“Our partnership with PAIX will ensure that we bring world class carrier neutral data centre operations to Ivory Coast and UEMOA Countries. We will be able to serve the growing requirements for colocation services from the highly secure data centre facilities, building the heart of Ivory Coast’s and West Africa's digital economies. We look forward to working with PAIX to build a large community of interest and support the rapid development of e-commerce and financial markets in West Africa,” said Ange Diagou, CEO of NSIA Technologies.

The entire scope of the joint venture includes the member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) which comprises of Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

For the specific Abidhan data centre, the joint venture will invest further in it and offer colocation services to a diversified customer portfolio including telecom companies, internet service providers and financial institutions. The new facility will also have the added advantage of access to the key fibre networks in Abidjan.

“Our investment in this joint venture with NSIA Technologies is development of datacentre infrastructure in West Africa, a region of the continent with growing demand for online services, and consequently, a reliable infrastructure,” added Wouter van Hulten, CEO of PAIX. “Côte d’Ivoire is a key regional network hub for West Africa. We have received strong interest from our international customers to further develop the infrastructure in Abidjan and are thrilled to have found a strong local partner in NSIA Technologies, to build a world class operation in Abidjan.”

The joint venture will allow NSIA Technologies to focus on its core IT services business, while the new data centres will help meet the growing demand for colocation and interconnection services in the region. As the demand for services increases, further expansion of the facility capacity has planned.
