Cloudscene Q1 2018 leaderboard

Equinix topped the board across all regions for the fifth consecutive quarter beating out digital Realty in North America, Interxion in EMEA, NextDC in Oceania and Global Switch in Asia.

Commenting on the results, entrepreneur and Cloudscene’s founder, Bevan Slattery, said: "The pace of 2018 was never going to be slow. The foundation of growth in the global data centre industry is the rapid movement of enterprises to the cloud. Coupled with record-breaking mergers and acquisitions year-on-year, this is an industry experiencing exponential change."

Oceania leaderboard Q1 2018

Across Oceania YourDC moved up two places to fifth position which bumped down Macquarie Telecom to sixth, iseek moved up two places to seventh place, which in turn bumped down Interactive to eight and Datacom moved up one place to ninth.

In Equinix’s case its success in Oceania is owed largely in part to its acquisition of Australian data centre operator, Metronode. The addition of ten colocation facilities obtained as part of the £1bn deal has enabled the company to expand its lead in the region by a further 22%.

North America leaderboard Q1 2018

In the North America region the company’s market share grew by 4%, 3% in EMEA and 2% in Asia owing to an increase in connectivity.

Digital Realty also had a good quarter in the North America region with increasing its lead with CoreSite by 11% helped in part because of its 2017 acquisition of DuPont Fabros. While Level 3 Communications and Colt Technology Services both jumped two places in the North America and EMEA regions respectively.

The only other movement in the region was Cologix and Cyxtera who both moved down one spot to sixth and seventh place respectively.

"Cloudscene’s Leaderboard has therefore become an important tool for the industry to assess the ranking and movement of the major industry players, taking into important consideration carrier neutrality, an area that’s critical to the success and longevity of this industry," added Slattery.

EMEA leaderboard Q1 2018

In the EMEA region Nikhef and Orange Business Services dropped one place to ninth and tenth positions respectively.

Asia leaderboard Q1 2018

As for Asia NTT Communications moved up one space to third position which in turn moved bumped down GPX Global Systems to fourth, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres moved up an impressive two spots to fifth causing Netmagic Solutions and AIMS to drop down to sixth and seventh place respectively. Interestingly Telstra dropped down one spot to ninth place just behind Digital Realty.
