Africa and Middle East carrier CMC Networks has appointed Jatinder Sispal as its executive VP of global sales.

He will be based in the UK with a team spread across the US, UK, Africa and Asia, said South Africa-based CMC.

Martin Springer, CEO of CMC, said that Sispal “brings the sales leadership, along with an international network and successful track record that reflects our ambitious growth plans as the wholesale carrier of choice for all global carriers wishing to expand their capabilities in this exciting and complex region.”

Sispal joins CMC after just a year at CityFibre, a company that is building alternative fibre access networks in a number of UK cities. As head of carrier and national providers at CityFibre, he was responsible for sales to carriers, content providers and data centre operators. A consortium backed by Goldman Sachs has made a recommended cash offer of £538 million for CityFibre.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Sispal earlier spent 16 months with BT’s business and public sector operation as head of local business. He spent more than 10 years at Colt, until March 2014, leaving after three years as director of sales and marketing for northern Europe.

He joined the industry in 1994 as an executive with Mercury Communications and then spent six years at Telstra, followed by two years at a Telstra/PCCW joint venture, Reach.

Sispal said: “CMC is possibly one of the best kept secrets in the wholesale carrier industry and has been delivering sophisticated product solutions to global organisations in all vertical sectors, including manufacturing, government, and FMCG.”
