Africa Data Centres expands its Nairobi facility

Africa Data Centres, part of pan-African group Liquid Telecom, has expanded facilities at its flagship East Africa Data Centre (EADC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The company opened a new floor at the site earlier this month which will provide 500 square metres of rack space for cloud service providers, cloud-based services, applications and back-end systems in the region.

“The newly opened floor at EADC is a direct response to the huge demand that we’re receiving for colocation and hosting services in Africa, said Dan Kwach, general manager at EADC. “Our state-of-the-art data centre facility in Nairobi has exceeded expectation since it first opened in 2013, and we will continue to serve our expanding customer base with world-class data centre solutions.”

Once completed the new expansion will bring the total white space of EADC to 2,000 square metres, across four floors. The new floor will be compliant with the most up to date security standards as the EADC being the first data centre in East Africa to receive Tier III certification from the Uptime Institute.

“By hosting their data within Africa, businesses in the region have clear visibility on where their customer sensitive data is at all times and which parties have access to that data. This sends out a clear message to consumers that your business is serious about data privacy and protection,” added Kwatch.

The additional floor at EADC is set to host a new analytics centre for Strathmore Business School, which will provide data-driven research and practices for African businesses, as well as other infrastructure.

The site offers local businesses the ability to host their data in Africa, which is particularly important at a time when data privacy and data residency are becoming a growing concern for end-users.

In February of this year Africa Data Centres launched its newly-expanded carrier grade data centre facilities in Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa. The two sites South Africa Data Centre (SADC) Johannesburg and SADC Cape Town, provide leading cloud service providers, carriers and enterprises with additional rack space and colocation services to meet the rising demand for cloud-based services in Southern Africa.
