Grupo Gtd acquires Falabella data centre in Chile

Grupo Gtd, the Chilean telecoms operator, has acquired a data centre in Santiago de Chile owned by department store chain Falabella.

Despite the sale, Falabella will continue to remain on-site as a customer, having signed a 20 year data centre services contract.

Speaking to Data Center Dynamics, Grupo Gtd’s general manager Alberto Bezanilla, said that the deal will enable the company to not only strengthen its relationship with one of its biggest customers, but also to expand its cloud and hosting offerings in the region, following the construction of two additional data centres in Peru and Chile.

“It will also allow us to increase our data center network and position ourselves as the only provider with three Tier III sites in Santiago, those who join our data center in Colombia and those we are building in Lima and Puerto Montt,” added Bezanilla.

The site offers 7,500 square metres of total floor space, of which 1,600 square meters of it is dedicated technical equipment, divided into four equally sized server rooms. In addition the data centre has been awarded the Uptime Institute’s Tier III certification and benefits from Santiago de Chile’s cool, semi-arid climate by using a free cooling system.

In spring of last year Grupo Gtd acquired fibre-optic network provider Netline Peru as well as Spanish data services provider Cable Runner Ibérica (CRI), and Intesis, a Chilean company specialising in system integration, consulting and IT services.
