Globenet’s Columbian data centre achieves sustainability certification

Globenet’s data centre in Barranquilla, Columbia has been awarded the International Computer Room Experts Association (ICREA) Green Seal certification for sustainability.

The news marks Globenet as one of only two data centres in Columbia with this certification that acknowledges companies that sustainable practices, efficient use of energy and harmony with the environment.

Commenting on the announcement, Eduardo Falzoni, CEO of GlobeNet, said: “Sustainability was an important aspect in the design and construction of our new Barranquilla data centre and continues to be a focus in our operations and maintenance of the facility as we strive to achieve maximum efficiency with the use of minimum energy resource. Organisations all over the world are becoming more concerned about power usage and carbon footprint, and we are honoured to be acknowledged by ICREA’s Green Seal certification for our efforts to meet rigorous environment and energy management standards.”

ICREA is a non-profit organisation for the data centre community founded by engineers with experience in the design, construction, operation, management, maintenance, procurement, installation and auditing of data centres, with an international presence in over 20 countries.

Globenet first opened its doors to its Barranquilla facility in November 2017.  The 200 sqm Tier III facility is adjacent to the GlobeNet cable station in Barranquilla and has been designed and built to meet growing demand for wholesale telco, high-speed data and IT services in the Latin American market.

At the time Falsoni said that it was "a hallmark time for GlobeNet and for the advancement of secure and reliable network interconnection throughout Latin America".

The site provides integrators and operators with a safe and reliable alternative environment to Bogotá, meeting the highest requirements to support mission-critical IT services. In addition, the new facility supports a complete portfolio of IaaS services, IP transit, and domestic and international connectivity solutions.

Globenet recently set up a new internet interconnection point for Brazil at Fortaleza. As a result Fortaleza will join São Paulo as an internet exchange point (IXP) for Brazil, connecting traffic for the north and north-eastern part of the country in a deal with Brazil’s Network Information Center (NIC.br).
