Nokia names Sanjay Goel as president of global services

Nokia has appointed Sanjay Goel as the new president of global services and as a member of the Nokia Group Leadership Team (GLT).

Goel takes over from Igor Leprince, who is leaving Nokia to pursue other opportunities and will support Goel during the transition period. In his new role Goel will report directly to Rajeev Suri, Nokia’s president and CEO.

"I want to thank Igor for his contributions to Nokia. I warmly welcome Sanjay to the GLT, and look forward to working together to further strengthen Global Services," said Suri.

Prior to this position Goel served as head of global services sales and has held senior leadership roles in Nokia services over the last ten years. He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a specialization in Electronics and Communications from the Manipal Institute of Technology in India.

As of as of 1 April 2018, Nokia's Group Leadership Team will consist of: Rajeev Suri, Basil Alwan, Hans-Juergen Bill, Kathrin Buvac, Ashish Chowdhary, Joerg Erlemeier, Barry French, Sanjay Goel, Bhaskar Gorti, Federico Guillén, Gregory Lee, Kristian Pullola, Marc Rouanne, Maria Varsellona and Marcus Weldon.

Nokia recently announced that it will be able to push subsea fibre speeds up to 600Gbps with the release of a new optical chipset – the Photonic Service Engine 3 (PSE-3). According to the company it is the first chipset to use probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS), a technique developed by Nokia Bell Labs that pushes fibre-optic performance close to the Shannon limit. It enables maximum capacity over any distance - from metro to subsea - increasing capacity up to 65% over currently deployed networks while reducing power by 60%.
