Xtera completes interoperability testing with Infinera

Xtera, a provider of subsea fibre optic solutions, has successfully completed its interoperability testing with Infinera.

By combining Infinera’s Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE) to an Xtera line system, the trials showed the use of Xtera’s Open System Gateway (OSG) product family. Through a series of submarine simulations and laboratory tests compatibility, spectrum sharing and the capability of Xtera’s supervisory system to operate with the Infinera terminal were all proven.

Commenting on the successfully trials, Keith Henderson, Xtera’s Founder and chief executive officer, said: “Today’s customers are looking for systems which combine the most advanced technology available; the move towards provision of disaggregated subsea solutions demonstrates this. The success of these interoperability tests will give customers comfort that selecting Xtera technology for their wet plant can provide them with a proven end-to-end solution using industry leading SLTE platforms.”

Included in the tests were the transmission performance of Infinera’s XTS-3300 meshponder, through Xtera’s wideband hybrid Raman-EDFA repeaters using 16-QAM modulation format. The tests showed the ability of Xtera’s Virtual Fiber Gateway (VFG) to allow multiple vendors’ equipment to share spectrum and proved the resilience of XTS-3300 to strong Line Monitoring Equipment (LME) signals.

“Infinera is continually enhancing our solutions to deliver the best capacity-reach performance, and we lead the way in Open SLTE solutions. Adding compatibility with Xtera’s advanced line systems further illustrates our commitment to Open Systems and shows how Open SLTEs can eliminate risk while delivering the best system solutions for our customers,” continued Scott Jackson, vice president of the subsea business group at Infinera.

Xtera recently announced that it has been selected as the supplier for Seaborn Network's ARBR submarine cable linking Argentina to Brazil. The 2,700 km open system is a joint venture between Seaborn Networks and the Werthein Group, and offers a 4-fibre pair, 48Tbps, direct PoP-to-PoP.
