GTT launches PoP in Root’s Montreal Data Center

MTL-R2 is Canada’s largest wholesale data center and will enable GTT to offer a greater selection of connectivity options to its cloud-based multinational clients.

Commenting on the news, AJ Byers, president and CEO of Root Data Center, said: “Through GTT, Root Data Center customers now have more connectivity options. Companies throughout North America, including top technology firms that have IT infrastructure in Canada, can now benefit from Root’s cutting-edge colocation services coupled with GTT’s internet and wide area networking services, including secure and private connectivity to leading cloud service providers.”

The news is said to be driven by the growing need for colocation services in Montreal, this includes major cloud providers and multinational enterprises that are attracted to Quebec’s business and economic opportunities.

“Root Data Center’s Montreal facility is located along one of the busiest routes for Internet traffic between Europe and the US,” added Jeff Beer, president of GTT Carrier division. “With this new PoP, Root’s multinational customers are able to combine industry-leading infrastructure with GTT’s global reach to support their international business operations.”

Root Data Center facilities feature advanced network infrastructure, scalability, low-cost, green energy solutions and high security standards. Root Data Center offers colocation solutions that feature rapid deployment of high-density racks, a secure, carrier-neutral facility designation, as well as 55MW of power capacity to accommodate the growing demands of customers. At the forefront of the green revolution with free air-cooling systems and renewable hydroelectric power resources, Root also uses the cool, Canadian climate for cost-effective energy efficiency.

The news also follows on from the announcement Root made in November, when confirmed that it had secured a $90 million in financing from Goldman Sachs enabling it to expand into new regions and meeting growing customer demands.

At the time Byers said that the “improves Root's financial strength and long-term stability, enabling the company to enter new regions and markets, complete facility expansions, and properly invest in capacity to better serve demand from growing business sectors such as the retail segment."
