NTT Communications picked by Hitachi for SD-WAN solution

NTT Communications has been picked by global industrial conglomerate Hitachi to provide a top-scale software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) solution for global expansion.

Hitachi will leverage NTT Com’s SD-WAN solution on its GWAN network, which connects more than 1,000 offices in around 40 countries.

NTT Com will provide a number of components which form the SD-WAN solution that Hitachi has picked, including the Master's ONE CloudWAN which is provided by NTTPC Communications – a separate subsidiary of NTT Com.

Master’sONE was announced in January 2017 and is the company’s first managed cloud network service. It uses Vipela’s SD-WAN technology to offer flexible, agile and secure WAN infrastructure for enterprises.

The solution selected by Hitachi uses an SD-WAN created with software defined networking (SDN) technology to control network environments that will automatically allocate MPLS network and Internet usage according to communication needs, NTT Com said.

Utilizing a control panel, Hitachi users will be able to reconfigure the network structure and routers of 1,000 offices within just several tens of seconds to five minutes. It also includes network bandwidth optimisation and strengthened security, the firm claims.

Motoaki Satoyama, GM of united IT platform office, IT services division of Hitachi said: "Flexibility and agility are crucial for the Hitachi's network because we operate a broad range of business spanning more than 850 group companies in about 70 countries and regions.

“In seeking a partner that could work with us to meet the challenge of strengthening our large-scale network infrastructure, we decided that NTT Com has the right mindset to grasp future trends and challenge new things. Another key was NTT Com's capability to realize changes that we had envisioned."
