CenturyLink completes New York fibre loop expansion

CenturyLink has announced the completion of another metro fibre loop expansion along the US east coast, this time in Greenwich, Connecticut.

CenturyLink, which completed its $34 billion acquisition of Level 3 Communications in Q4 2017, can now enable customers in Greenwich with access to global fibre connectivity. The metro fibre loop in Greenwich enables CenturyLink to add approximately 20 Class A office buildings to its on-net portfolio.

"As a company, we understand how important it is for businesses to have safe, secure and reliable network connections that deliver faster solutions to move their businesses forward," said Carl Bonitz, CenturyLink general manager for New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

"Our expanded network provides businesses in Greenwich with local network infrastructure and support alongside global connectivity, creating a gateway for information exchange across the region and around the world."

This is the fifth in a series of fibre loop expansions completed along the East Coast in the last 12 months, including: Stamford, Conn.; Hartford, Conn.; Norwalk, Conn. and White Plains, N.Y. These route expansions provide business customers additional network diversity and increased capacity. This is critical at a time when bandwidth requirements are ever-growing and the need for flexible, high-capacity solutions continue to surge.

This expansion strengthens geographic fibre routes, points of presence (PoP) and carrier diversity. The latest expansion provides enterprise customers with access to CenturyLink's global product portfolio, additional business continuity disaster recovery (BCDR) services, as well as fibre path diversity.

CenturyLink says it is among the few companies with operations in this area to provide fibre routes going north, south and over Long Island Sound. “As part of this expansion, CenturyLink can deliver up to 100Gbps speeds for business internet and data in addition to CenturyLink's full enterprise product and services portfolio which includes: global networking, cloud, hybrid IT, SD-WAN, security, voice, video, data, hosting, big data analytics, IT consulting, managed services and global data centres,” a company statement read.

The news follows CenturyLink’s announcement earlier this month that it was continuing to overhaul its management team by appointing two new senior executives – Gauvra Chand as EVP of marketing and Shaun Andrews as EVP of product management – with both set to report to chief operating officer Jeff Storey.
