Vocus spins off wholesale arm from enterprise unit in restructure

Vocus Group has announced an organisational restructure while will see it split the enterprise and wholesale divisions of its Australian arm into separate operating units.

Vocus, which is Australia’s fourth largest telecoms company, will now be ran as four separate reportable segments: Consumer; Enterprise and Government; Wholesale and International; and New Zealand.

Michael Simmons, former chief executive of TPG Telecom and current CEO of the enterprise and wholesale business, will head the wholesale & international division, while Scott Carter – who used to be COO of M2 Group prior to its merger with Vocus – will lead the Enterprise and Government segment.

Vocus has also announced the appointment of Sandra de Castro as chief executive of its consumer division, replacing Carter.

The announcement comes after an “unpleasant period” for Vocus chairment Vaughan Bowen, after he apologised to shareholders in October following an AU$1.46 billion full-year loss for the company.

Group chief executive Geoff Horth said: “The opportunities available in Vocus’ domestic wholesale business, combined with our investment in the Australia Singapore Cable, warrants the creation of a dedicated Wholesale and International division and will ensure that we have the focus, products and service proposition to be the provider of choice to customers in this important market.”
