Hurricane Electric launches new PoP at Interxion’s Amsterdam data centre

Hurricane Electric, the provider of the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, has deployed its third point of presence (PoP) in Amsterdam, located in Interxion’s AMS8 data centre.

By expanding its presence in Amsterdam the company says that it will be able to provide the expanded bandwidth options that are in demand from established and small companies.

Various global IT companies have built campuses in the area to capitalise on the IT infrastructure and technical work force, including: Microsoft, Cisco, and Oracle, Verizon and Google, causing an increase in demand for high-speed IP transit.

“Hurricane Electric is delighted to continue offering new connectivity options in Amsterdam with the opening of our third PoP in the city,” commented Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric.

The launch of this new PoP will provide AMS8 customers with new connectivity options as well as the ability to improve fault tolerance, load balancing, congestion management and transit of next-generation IPv6 traffic. In addition, AMS8 tenants are also able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network. As well as access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE and GigE ports, resulting in increased throughput, reduced latency and improved reliability.

“Because the region is so well-connected, Amsterdam has proven itself to be one of the most important technological hubs in Europe. This new location will provide businesses throughout the country with the ability to tap into our vast global network, enabling them to remain competitive in the global economy,” added Leber.

Interxion’s AMS8 facility boasts 15 megawatts of power capacity, 99.99% uptime, and a direct connection to the AMS-IX, NL-ix and NDIX internet exchanges. As well as this, tenants of the AMS8 data centre benefit from  access to more than 45 carriers and ISPs, 3 IXPs and features a free cooling system, aquifer thermal energy storage, and N+1 generator backup.

Hurricane Electric operates a combined IPv4 and IPv6 network of 19,000 BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) sessions with over 6,500 different networks via more than 174 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.

In November, Hurricane Electric continued to expand its network by deploying a new PoP in in the Infomart Dallas Building Meet-Me Room. As a result, customers of Infomart Dallas can now gain access to Hurricane Electric with zero cross-connect fees.
