LOGIX closes acquisition of Alpheus Communications

LOGIX Communications has closed its acquisition of Texas-based network provider Alpheus Communications from private equity owners The Gores Group and Scott Widham, creating one of the largest independent metro fibre providers in the US state.

The acquisition gives LOGIX an expanded offering in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston (the so-called DASH markets), with the acquisition of Alpheus adding 2,800 route miles of long haul fibre and 1,900 route miles of metro fibre to its existing network

With over 5,800 route miles of network spanning 180,000 fibre miles, overall, LOGIX claims to be the largest independent metro fibre provider in the region. The company now serves over 12,500 enterprise and carrier customers across the largest and fastest growing markets in Texas, connecting to 75 data centres in the state including its own high-performance DASH facilities.

The completion of the deal sees the combined company renamed as LOGIX Fiber Networks. David Dane, formerly COO at Atlantic Broadband, took charge of LOGIX in June and has been appointed CEO of the combined unit.

"We are excited to welcome Alpheus employees and customers to the LOGIX family, and we're eager to rapidly integrate our combined networks, products and customer care operations," said Dane. "Our dedication to providing superior, local customer service with the most technologically advanced services to our enterprise and carrier customers will allow us to drive continued strong growth for our company and our clients."

Dane replaced Matthew Murphy, who had served as interim CEO of LOGIX. Murphy is co-founder and partner at private equity firm Astra Capital Management, LOGIX’s equity sponsor who led the negotiation, execution and funding of the acquisition.

Murphy, currently the executive chairman of the LOGIX board of directors, said: "LOGIX has been successfully transformed by the exceptional direction of our management team that came on board when Astra bought the company in 2016. The expanded network created from this acquisition perfectly positions LOGIX to capitalize on the enormous opportunities we see in our markets."
