Exetel strikes $40m Ethernet wholesale

Australian internet service provider Exetel has struck a deal with Telstra Wholesale to supply Telstra Ethernet Access to its corporate customer base.

The two-year deal, worth around AUD$40 million, will give Exetel’s customers access to reliable, high quality connectivity that also allows scalability and speeds up to five times those available on its existing network, Exetel said.

Exetel CEO Richard Purdy said: “Having grown four-fold in as many years our corporate business is at an inflexion point, driven by the inexorable growth in demand for reliable bandwidth from our SME customers as they increasingly take up cloud-based services.

“Telstra Wholesale is the ideal partner for Exetel to continue this growth. Our mutual commitment to customer service, their straightforward approach, coupled with Telstra’s unique coverage makes today’s decision a very easy one.”

Exetel has seen its average bandwidth per business customer more than triple over the last two years to 67Mbps in 2017, and expects this to top 100Mbps by the end of FY2018.

It supports over 10,000 Australian companies, and its corporate division has increased by over 400% in the past four years.

This latest deal with Telstra Wholesale makes Exetel the third largest purchaser of the Australian incumbent’s Ethernet Access services in the country.

Telstra Wholesale Executive Director Glenn Osborne said, “We’re pleased to have played a part in supporting Exetel’s growth in the business market over the past four years. For businesses that require secure private access to the cloud, we provide data services supported by fully redundant head ends within our industry leading

“Ethernet Access network. Along with the recent launch of Cloud AccessTM, this demonstrates our commitment to building high performance data services that enable customers to co-create market leading solutions with Telstra Wholesale.”
