T-Mobile US and Sprint deal announcement reportedly set to be delayed

T-Mobile and Sprint are reportedly set to delay an announcement about a planned merger of the two US mobile operators for several weeks, until both firms have posted their latest financial results.

Bloomberg cites people familiar with the matter who said the two companies had been unable to finalise the details of the deal before the end of October, meaning they’ll wait to make any announcement until after their next round of quarterly results.

The report said if the details are not finalised by the end of October, any announcement will likely be delayed until mid-to-late November, as both firms tend to publish results in October.

If a deal is struck, and approved by regulators, it will bring together T-Mobile, the third biggest mobile operator in the US, and Sprint, the fourth biggest by subscriber numbers.

Reports earlier this month claimed the deal would likely be an all-stock merger, though both company have repeatedly refused to discuss any rumours.

Speculation about a potential merger has been ongoing for several years, during which time Deutsche Telekom-owned T-Mobile has overtaken Sprint in subscriber numbers. A deal was previously believed to be close to being announced in 2014 but Sprint-owner SoftBank pulled the plugs over regulatory concerns.
