Interoute adds Cloud Fabric to Edge SD-WAN service

Interoute has added Cloud Fabric to its Edge SD-WAN service in order to boost the performance of applications on enterprise networks.

The software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) solution is meshed into Interoute’s Cloud Fabric network, which operates in 132 countries, giving customers quicker access to cloud services. It brings together 17 virtual data centre cloud zones, co-location facilities, points of presence (PoP) and third party cloud providers with low-latency private network backbone.

The Cloud Fabric mesh is constantly adapting and re-routing itself, to intelligently optimise application data flows between local offices and the corporate private cloud environment and accelerate applications delivered from the public cloud, Interoute claims.

“Interoute Edge SD-WAN is bringing new levels of optimised application performance in the cloud,” said Mark Lewis, EVP of products and development at Interoute. “As more applications move to the cloud, enterprise users can be forced to take an indirect route across the global internet to access those apps, resulting in increased latency and poor performance.

“Interoute Edge SD-WAN combined with Interoute’s Cloud Fabric Software Defined core ensures that traffic takes the fastest and most direct route, optimising throughput and ultimately cloud application performance. It provides access to public and private computing combined with accelerated access to other applications elsewhere in the cloud.”

Interoute, which has recently been linked to a €1.65 billion sale, is the owner-operator of one of Europe's largest networks and a global cloud services platform which encompasses 15 data centres, 17 virtual data centres and 33 colocation centres, with connections to 195 additional third-party data centres across Europe.

Recent research released by Interoute found that 46% of UK infrastructure will be “cloudified”– moved to the cloud – within the next six months.
