UK Digital Minister to open Capacity Europe 2017

The UK Government’s Minister of State for Digital and Culture, Matt Hancock, will open the largest annual meeting in Europe for the global carrier community next month.

Capacity Europe, taking place on 24 – 26 October 2017 in London, is set to bring together over 2,500 senior-level attendees, representing over 600+ companies from across 85+ countries.

Hancock, who has served in a number of ministerial roles, has helped to champion the digital transformation of the UK Government. Since July 2016 he has served at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) as Minister of State for Digital and is responsible for broadband, broadcasting, creative industries, cyber and the tech industry.

The UK Government is investing £1.9 billion, through the National Cyber Security Strategy, to make the UK the most secure place in the world to live and work online and Hancock has spoken passionately about how the UK can become “the most secure digital economy in the world”.

Figures from NTT Communications found that there were more than six billion cyber-attacks attempted in 2016 as record numbers of consumers used online services for commerce, news and OTT video entertainment. Security is critical now more than ever in a digital world which will play host to more than 21 billion connected devices by 2020, according to Gartner forecasts.

Uniting voice and data businesses to purchase and sell annual trading agreements, Capacity Europe offers new partnership opportunities with OTTs, content and cloud providers, data centres, IXPs and ISPs.
