Digital Realty begins year-long construction of new Sydney data centre

Digital Realty is building a new 14MW data centre in the west of Sydney, its fourth in Australia.

The new operation, SYD11, will be 16,360 square metres and will be connected to the company’s existing SYD10 Erskine Park facility, which is nearby, providing a connected campus environment for Australian and international customers.

“With two data centres in Sydney and two in Melbourne, we are pleased to be further expanding our footprint in Australia to better serve our growing customer base,” said Krupal Raval, Digital Realty’s CFO for the Asia-Pacific region.

“In addition to demonstrating our commitment to our local customers, we hope this facility will become a hub for the modern economy, providing a significant boost in employment and additional investment in the area.”

In the region, Digital Realty operates a network of data centres in Singapore, Hong Kong, Osaka, Melbourne and Sydney. The company owns and operates 145 properties across 33 metropolitan areas around the world.

Construction of SYD11 has just started, said Digital Realty – the company hosted a ground-breaking ceremony with the local member of parliament. Completion is expected in a year.

Digital Realty CEO William Stein added: “Data centre facilities are core to any company’s digital strategy, and SYD11 will bring to market the latest advancements in data centre design, enabling our customers’ IT strategies while providing new and improved ways of connecting, working and extending their business reach.”
