TierPoint enhancing Baltimore data centre presence

TierPoint has announced it will build a new state-of-the-art commercial data centre in the Baltimore metropolitan area, less than a year after expanding its current Baltimore facility.

The US data centre and hybrid IT solutions provider says the plan calls for approximately 35,000 sq ft of total space in BWI Technology Park, with approximately 23,000 sq ft of raised floor space. With an initial investment of more than $10 million, the new carrier-neutral facility will include fully redundant and generator-backed power, and diverse high speed network connectivity.

"The new data centre allows us to respond to growing demand in the Baltimore/Washington DC region, including from the rapidly growing number of information and cybersecurity firms in the BWI corridor," said Jim Weller, TierPoint vice president and general manager.

"In addition to the robust power and dense fibre-optic connectivity available in the area, the location is easily accessible for current and future customers."

The data centre will use multi-layer physical security and will meet stringent regulatory compliance standards. The facility will also feature infrastructure support, office and shared work space for clients.

TierPoint, which announced that it was to build a new facility in Broken Arrow, Tulsa, in June, expects the new data centre to be available to clients in the spring of 2018.
