Comcast completes rollout of Xfinity MVNO

Comcast has completed the release of its new MVNO service, Xfinity Mobile, which is running on Verizon’s network across the US.

The cable company announced the service earlier this year, but has now opened it up in every market it operates in, concluding with Philadelphia.

Xfinity combines Verizon’s 4G network with access to more than 18 million wifi hotspots nationwide, providing internet services.

"We created a unique mobile experience that's simple and saves customers money by connecting to our nationwide Wi-Fi network, and allows them to only pay for the data they use," said Greg Butz, president of Xfinity Mobile.

"Now that we're available across all of our distribution platforms, including our retail locations in all of our markets, we look forward to introducing even more customers to Xfinity Mobile."

Comcast has been linked with a potential merger or acquisition of mobile operators Sprint and T-Mobile from SoftBank and Deutsche Telekom respectively, although CEO Brian Roberts has dismissed this.

It splashed out $1.7 billion on spectrum at the most recent Federal Communications Commission auction, showing its ambition in this sector.
