KPN moves into cloud healthcare services by buying CAM IT

KPN has bought a cloud-based provider of IT services to health and public sector organisations in the Netherlands.

The company, which has not disclosed the purchase price for CAM IT Solutions, says the move is in line with its “ambition to grow in IT related services and its strategic focus on the healthcare and public sector”.

Cam, based in Nieuwegen, south of Utrecht, serves 50,000 workspaces in hospitals, healthcare institutions and other public bodies in the Netherlands. The company, with 62 employees, does not appear to operate outside the country.

It provides services via its Camcube private cloud platform, says KPN. Cam describes this as a virtual private ICT infrastructure – private Cloud – that users buy or rent.

The platform has “a heavily secured backdoor” for dedicated internet access with dedicated virtual private network links to external partners, providing software as a service and infrastructure as a service.
