GTT chosen by Jisc to upgrade its internet services

GTT has announced a partnership with Jisc, the global research and educations network provider, to upgrade its internet network.

The service agreement sees GTT provide up to 120Gbps of internet capacity for the company, with  the possibility for Jisc, to upgrade the services in line with user demand.

Speaking on the partnership, Martin Ford, GTT division president of EMEA, said: “GTT is committed to connecting people and organisations around the world. We are pleased to enhance the collaboration of Jisc’s users through high-performance internet connectivity and look forward to further supporting Jisc as their geographic and service requirements expand.”

GTT will provide Jisc with high-speed internet services to its popular Janet network, which currently has 18 million College and University users in the UK alone. In addition, Jisc is also the UK operator for eduroam, which provides an international roaming service for the education community supporting more than 70 million users worldwide.

With over 3,000 points of presence (PoPs), GTT offers high capacity cloud networking services leveraging its Tier 1 global IP backbone, guaranteeing high network availability, interconnecting via three geographically separated PoPs.

“GTT is an ideal partner for Jisc, providing us with the comprehensive global network reach, scalability and flexibility that we require as we grow. We look forward to future collaboration to power UK higher education and digital transformation,” added Tim Kidd, executive director of Jisc Technologies.

With Hibernia now fully integrated into GTT, GTT's CEO Rick Calder told Capacity last month how the company has added two more acquisitions ahead of schedule.
