AT&T puts Donovan in charge of comms, Lee as head of Mexico

AT&T has named John Donovan as CEO of AT&T Communications from today, and Lori Lee as CEO of AT&T International.

The appointments are in preparation for the company’s expected merger with Time Warner, still going through the regulatory process.

Lee was in charge of the merger integration team, but hands over that role to John Stankey, who was CEO of AT&T Entertainment Group. He will be CEO of AT&T’s media company once the merger is complete.

Donovan was chief strategy officer and group president of technology and operations. He keeps technology and operations but adds on business solutions and the company’s entertainment group, including mobile, broadband and video services to US-based consumers and international business services.

Though her job title includes the word “international”, Lee’s role is limited to Latin America and the Caribbean. She runs AT&T’s mobile services, with more than 13 million consumers and businesses in Mexico, and its pay-TV service to more than 13 million subscribers in 11 countries and territories in Latin America and the Caribbean.

She was global marketing officer , overseeing brand strategy, advertising, corporate communications, events, executive operations and sponsorships worldwide. Before that she was senior executive vice president of AT&T Home Solutions, the company’s consumer wireline group.

Donovan is a former CTO of the company. His continued technology role means his responsibilities also include oversight of the company’s global information, software development, network technology and big data strategy.

All three report to chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson, who said: “We look forward to completing the deal and delivering for customers the many benefits of this merger.”
