Huawei Marine and BTL launch 32Tbps subsea cable system

Huawei Marine and Belize Telemedia Ltd (BTL) have met their two-month installation deadline on time and on budget, announcing the launch of BTL’s Strategic Evolution Underwater Link (SEUL).

The project will bring fibre-optic submarine cable connectivity to San Pedro in Northern Belize, enabling super-fast broadband speeds to the island.

“The SEUL project is an important element of BTL’s transformative Network Evolution Plan, and its delivery permits world class high-speed network connection between Belize and the island of Ambergris Caye, which will significantly enhance the prospects for economic development on the Caye – and eventually throughout the country. This milestone would not have been possible without the incredible effort and dedication of both Huawei Marine’s professional delivery team and BTL’s Network Engineering Team," said Rochus Schreiber, BTL’s CEO.

Formed as part of BTL’s previously announced $100m capital investment, to modernise the country’s mobile and landline infrastructure. Once completed, BTL will be able to offer its DigiNet Broadband product to the island of Ambergris Caye with broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Schreiber met with Daniel Guerrero, major of San Pedro Town, to discuss DigiNet plan offers and the cooperation needed to carry out the works on infrastructure. Customers can expect fibre broadband as early as August 2017.

Zhang Hongxiang, project director for Huawei Marine, added: “In order to protect the environment, our delivery team chose to enclose the entire installation area with a turbidity silt curtain to reduce the impact on the environment. The effective delivery of the project, not only reflects our customer-centric focus but is also the embodiment of Huawei Marine’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility.”
