Juniper Networks appoints Google engineer Koley as CTO

Juniper Networks has named Google engineer and head of network architecture Bikash Koley as its new chief technology officer, overseeing the company’s critical technology innovations.

Koley, who will join the company in August, brings a wealth of experience in IP and optical technologies to the role, having spent almost a decade in various engineering roles at Google.

His most recent position was as the search engine giant’s distinguished engineer and head of network architecture, engineering and planning. He has also previously held positions at Ciena and Qstreams networks, a company he co-founded in 2004.

Koley said: "I have admired Juniper Networks' technology for the last two decades and believe the technology within Juniper will lend itself to an amazing programmable platform that will allow companies to operate seamless hybrid cloud infrastructures. Harmonious connectivity to clouds is not a solved problem, and I look forward to being part of the new era of networking.”

His role as CTO at Juniper will see Koley tasked with leading the firm’s technology strategy, while furthering developments in enabling high performance, highly-automated self-driving network technology.

His appointment comes just months after Juniper founder and current CTO, Pradeep Sindhu, said he would reduce his role at the company to focus on Fungible, a startup he co-founded in 2015.

Koley will report directly to chief executive officer Rami Rahim, who labelled him “a visionary.” Rahim added: “I'm excited to have Bikash help us lead the transformation in the networking industry by delivering innovative products, solutions, and services for network operators around the world.”
