Axtel unveils $68m data centre investment plan for Mexico

Axtel has unveiled plans to invest up to $68 million to build data centre facilities in Mexico, having already spent $24.7 million on a facility at the Parque Tecnológico Innovación Querétaro, in the Latin American country.

The 38,750 square foot data centre in Querétaro is the company’s second in that city, and sixth in the country, following sites in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City.

It is the first data centre in Latin America with an Energy Cogeneration System, 3N redundancy, and ICREA Level 5 Certification.

Andrés Cordovez Ferretto, executive director of infrastructure and operations at Axtel, said: “These investments will allow us to continuously consolidate our position of leadership in the Mexican data centre market.

“Our operational model is unique in Mexico as, in addition to being able to service mission critical workloads, it is based on a modular scheme which allows the personalisation of services according to the industry that will be using them.”

Axtel said the remaining funds – around $43 million – will be used to expand and build facilities over the next two years.
