Telus unveils network investment plan for Alberta

Canadian operator Telus to expand fixed and mobile infrastructure in province of Alberta.

Telus has unveiled plans to invest more than $4.2 billion in infrastructure around the Alberta region of Canada up to 2020.

The Canadian operator said it will splash out c$900 million in 2017 alone, as it looks to expand its mobile and fixed line services in the region.

Telus said it will expand its gigabit-enabled PureFibre network directly to thousands more homes and businesses in rural and urban communities across the province. It will also boost 4G LTE connectivity, and develop technologies for 5G.

The investment is part of a wider expansion of the operator’s network across Canada, with Telus saying it had invested C$724 million in its networks in the first quarter of 2017.

Telus posts around C$12.9 billion in annual revenue and has 12.7 million subscriber connections, including 8.6 million wireless subscribers, 1.7 million high-speed Internet subscribers, 1.4 million residential network access lines and 1.1 million Telus TV customers.
