Orixcom doubles port capacity on UAE-IX

Orixcom and the UAE-IX Internet Exchange, powered by DE-CIX, have today signed a deal to double Orixcom’s port capacity on the Dubai-based UAE-IX.

“Orixcom were one of the earliest players to connect to the UAE-IX back in 2013, and since then have been excited to see the continuous growth of the facility,” said Andrew Grenville, chief executive officer of Orixcom.

“This doubling of our current capacity ensures we can meet the tremendous demand we’re seeing from our customers for improved IP network resilience and routing efficiency. The net result of all this is a marked increase in the internet end-user experience around the Middle East region.”

UAE-IX is a carrier and data centre-neutral internet exchange (IX) for the Middle East that interconnects global networks and, above all, network operators and content providers in the GCC region.

Initiated by Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) with the support of the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), it dramatically improves IP network resilience, routing efficiency and the quality of the internet experience for end-users.

Ivo Ivanov, chief strategy and business development officer at DE-CIX, added: “We’re delighted to work with companies like Orixcom, who understand the value UAE-IX brings to the region. Orixcom’s knowledge of the complexities of the Middle East market is unparalleled and is hugely beneficial in helping customers achieve optimal business results. UAE-IX as the data centre and carrier-neutral IX for the Middle East drastically reduces latency in the region. The exchange will be upgraded soon to the world’s leading DE-CIX Apollon platform, enabling 100GE technology, and we look forward to growing further with our customers.”
