TOT strikes deal with Telenor's dtac for 2300MHz spectrum

Telecom of Thailand (TOT) has selected with Telenor Subsidiary dtac as its preferred partner for 4G services on its 2300MHz spectrum.

The state-owned Thai operator holds 60MHz of spectrum in the 2300MHz band, with a license that runs until 2025. The agreement will see dtac subsidiary TriNet Companybuild a network based on this spectrum, with the rigt to use up to 60% of capacity.

In turn, TriNet has agreed to pay TOT an annual fee of around THB 4.5 billion (£131 million), should the agreement receive approval from government authorities.

The two companies said they would look to sign the final deal by Q4 2017, following a series of negotiations over terms and conditions.

Sigve Brekke, CEO of Telenor Group, said: “I am pleased that TOT has selected dtac as a preferred partner for its 2300 MHz spectrum. Thailand is an important market for us, with its high and growing demand for mobile data services.

“The partnership provides clarity on our spectrum position in Thailand. Access to significant spectrum resources both the 2100 MHz and the 2300 MHz frequency bands will make us well positioned to continue to serve our Thai customers with quality services.”
