Government-run Djibouti Telecom said partnering with DE-CIX, in both Marseille and in the Dubai-based UAE-IX, would give it the opportunity to improve its customer experience, citing the presence of a number of major providers at DE-CIX.
It is the latest expansion for Djibouti Telecom, which announced in January that it was taking capacity on the new Australia West Expres cable. It also struck a roaming services deal with Syniverse last year.
“The main two reasons to peer with any internet exchange are quality, reducing latency and the cost of IP transit,” stated Mohamed Ahmed, director of international business at Djibouti Telecom.
“Joining DE-CIX will provide Djibouti Telecom with the opportunity to improve its customer’s experience, especially with the presence of Akamai, Google, Microsoft and other global ISPs and CDNs at DE-CIX.”
It comes as DE-CIX revealed another of its locations, based in Madrid, has became the fastest growing internet exchange worldwide.
Launched in June 2016, the Spanish IX has signed up 80 networks across the internet service, access networks and content provider sectors.
Initially based in Interxion’s Madrid data centre, DE-CIX added Interoute Spain as a second enabled site later last year. It’s connected capacity had gone from zero to 370Gbs by the end of 2016.
