Van Ierland returns to iBasis in global voice sales role

iBasis has named former global sale officer Edwin Van Ierland as its new SVP global sales voice almost eight years after he first left the KPN subsidiary.

Van Ierland will oversee voice sales and the retail business at iBasis, bringing more than two decades in the telecoms industry to the role.

He first joined iBasis in 2007, having spent more than five years as managing director of KPN Global Carrier services. Van Ierland was instrumental in the transaction between iBasis and Royal KPN N.V. that resulted in the merger of KPN Global Carrier Services into iBasis in October of 2007

He left iBasis in 2015, to become general manager of Imtech Marine, which rebranded as RH Marine later that year.

He held various roles at the maritime electrical and automation system integrator, including chief commercial officer, before leaving in February 2017.

iBasis CEO Feddo Hazewindus said: “We are pleased to welcome him back to iBasis and with his extensive knowledge and network we will continue to build on our success in voice.”

He began working with iBasis again on 24 April 2017. He rejoins the Dutch firm just a month after it announced a new partnership with Turkish integrated mobile and fixed telecommunications operator Turkcell. The two have collaborated to establish a new point of presence in Istanbul.

The new IPX PoP builds on Turkcell’s efforts to provide multiple services including 2G/3G and LTE Signaling and Roaming to enrich the customer roaming experience and is expected to stimulate growth in LTE services throughout the region. The PoP also expands the reach of the iBasis global IPX network, which already includes more than 450 LTE destinations worldwide.
