BICS deploys Coriant platform across pan-European network

BICS has begun deploying Coriant’s Groove G30 network disaggregation platform in major European metro markets to boost high-capacity, low-latency connectivity services.

The global wholesale carrier for voice, mobile data and capacity services is using the industry-leading Groove transmission solution to support the delivery of metro-based high-capacity, low latency point-to-point services, including 10G, coherent 100G, and OTU4 services.

“Metro markets are at the heart of surging demand for reliable, high-capacity services as high-bandwidth applications continue to transform the end-user communications landscape,” said Xavier Gondry, head of international network planning and deployment at BICS.

“With a highly compact, modular design and low power consumption, the Groove transport solution was a perfect fit for our evolving metro network needs. The solution gives us the ability to respond quickly to capacity needs and demands from our customers all while significantly minimising both footprint and power usage.”

BICS selected the transport solution, which is an innovative plug-and-play system architecture, to maximise its network efficiency, reliability and scalability. It will enable BICS to cost-efficiently serve the growing need for high-capacity, low latency connectivity in markets.

The stackable solution supports 3.2Tb of capacity throughput in a compact and highly pluggable 1RU form factor, and enables service providers and cloud and data centre operators to build their own scalable and secure transmission and optical line solutions with best-in-class functions, all enabled through open APIs. The solution supports programmable DWDM line interface to optimise the bandwidth and performance of high-capacity transmission from 100G to 400G in metro, regional, or long-haul transport and/or DCI applications.

Richard Fellner, regional vice president of EMEA at Coriant, added: “We are excited to renew our relationship with BICS and deliver a best-in-class transport solution that will help them enhance the scalability and robustness of their business and wholesale services across Europe.”

Initial deployment of the Groove systems began in Marseille last month and is now carrying live traffic. Additional deployments are planned for Brussels, Frankfurt, London, and other major European metropolitan area markets in the coming months.
