Oracle and Tech Mahindra launch managed VoLTE service for carriers

Oracle Communications has launched what it claims is the industry’s first end VoLTE-as-a-managed-service solution, as part of a project with Tech Mahindra.

The voice over LTE (VoLTE) offering is powered by Oracle’s IMS Core and signalling products, and is aimed at network operators aiming to launch out VoLTE without developing their own product.

The fully-virtualised solution aims to reduce operating costs for telcos looking to roll out VoLTE services, with deployment times between 3-6 months, according to Tech Mahindra.

“The need to drive increased network efficiency and coverage while offering enhanced voice quality necessitates the move to Voice-over-Packet technologies,” said Manish Vyas, CEO Tech Mahindra Network Services.

“Leveraging Oracle technology, Tech Mahindra is enabling service providers to adopt VoLTE in a simpler and more cost-effective way, with a powerful end-to-end pre-integrated solution that is virtualized and offers industry leading capabilities at each function.”

According to Oracle, around 580 operators globally have launched LTE services, but just 100 offer VoLTE. By offering a managed service, Oracle and Tech Mahindra claim the strain of developing and operating a VoLTE offering.

The service uses a number of Oracle platforms, including its Core Session Manager, Session Border Controller, Evolved Communications Application Server, Communications Policy Management, Diameter Signaling Router and Applications Orchestrator It will be managed by systems integrator Tech Mahindra.

“Oracle Communications is laser-focused on accelerating service providers’ transformation toward the software-centric networks of the future,” said Douglas Suriano, SVP and GM at Oracle Communications. “Tech Mahindra brings valuable experience in managed services, and this partnership will enable us to deliver the industry’s first end-to-tend VoLTE solution to service providers globally.”
