Sparkle has become the first European service provider to receive MEF 100G carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification for EPL and EVPL services.
The certification also makes the international services arm of TIM Group the first service provider in the world to attain the certification on a subsea cable system. Sparkle’s 9,500km Mediterranean & Balkan network, which spans over more than 20 cities in six markets and includes more than 6,500 km of fully owned submarine optical cables, is a complex optical communication system mostly based on Infinera DTN-X DWDM platform.
“As a driving force within MEF we are extremely proud to have received this additional certification that proves, once more, Sparkle’s commitment in providing customers with best performing advanced connectivity solutions that are optimized to support today’s digital transformation process”, said Alessandro Talotta, chairman and CEO at Sparkle.
Testing and certification were carried out by MEF’s official test lab, Iometrix, and Infinera and were performed on a dedicated virtual network established between the points of presence (PoPs) located in Catania, Italy, and Athens, Greece, and in three different phases in accordance with MEF’s certification programme.
As a result, Sparkle has further enhanced its data and cloud services proposition for those seeking better, assured and more secured bandwidth.
MEF states that it is the “driving force enabling Third Network services for the digital economy and the hyper-connected world”. Nan Chen, president of MEF, added: “MEF congratulates Sparkle for demonstrating outstanding industry leadership with MEF 100G CE 2.0 certification, which represents the gold standard for connectivity performance and forms a critical foundation for future service innovation. The Sparkle team has set the bar high in the European market with leading-edge certified solutions.”
