Ooredoo Tunisia lands in Sparkle's Sicily Hub

Ooredoo Tunisia has launched a multi-service point of presence (PoP) at Sparkle’s Sicily Hub.

It is the latest initiative between the global services division of Tim Group and Ooredoo Global Services since they struck a strategic partnership in April of last year.

The PoP in Palermo will serve as Ooredoo Tunisia’s main point of presence in Europe, increasing the diversity options available to its customers. Once it is finalised and operational, other operations within Ooredoo Group will also have access to the new PoP.

Khalid Abdulla Al Mansouri, acting CEO, Ooredoo Global Services, said: “Ooredoo Global Services continues to enhance its international network to better support voice, capacity and roaming traffic by leveraging its global partnerships.

“The launch of a new European Point of Presence for Ooredoo Tunisia is an important step forward and highlights the strength of our strategic relationship with Sparkle, which offers world-class infrastructure and significant additional protection and diversity for our customers.”

The Sicily Hub was inaugurated in May 2015 and offers direct access 19 submarine cables connecting Europe with Africa, the Middle East, Asia and North America.

It is served by Seabone, Sparkle’s Tier 1-Global IP Transit service. It offers reduced latency and shorter traffic routes for ISPs exchanging content locally.

Alessandro Talotta, chairman and CEO at Sparkle, said: “With an ever growing presence of multi-breed global players, our next generation data centre and open ecosystem Sicily Hub continues to attract new eyeballs, content and interconnections to international infrastructure and has rapidly become a complete service marketplace where service providers, content and media players and system integrators have an opportunity to grow their own businesses.”
