GTT announces four new PoPs across the US

GTT Communications has launched four new Points of Presence (PoPs) across the United States, as it continues to expand its reach.

The new PoPs will link up with GTT’s tier 1 global network and are located in San Diego, California; Detroit, Michigan; Chandler, Arizona; and McAllen, Texas.

The McAllen PoP will also serve as a key interconnection point for organisations looking to expand their reach into Central and Latin America, GTT said.

“GTT’s expanded U.S. network footprint helps us to deliver greater value to our client base,” said Rick Calder, GTT president and CEO. “Through these new facilities, GTT can provide deeper reach into key U.S. markets, supporting our clients’ growing bandwidth requirements and business-critical applications and services.”

It is the latest in a number of moves by GTT to expand its presence, which now consists of more than 250 PoPs worldwide. In addition to PoPs in North America, it also has a number of locations in Europe, Asia, and has recently added PoPs in Australia and the Middle East.

Last month, it reached a definitive agreement to acquire Hibernia Networks, which owns a number of terrestrial and subsea fibre assets including the Hibernia Express. The deal is expected to close by the end of Q1 2017.
