NSW Telco Authority to receive ES upgrade from Motorola

Motorola Solutions has struck a AU$30 million deal with the New South Wales Telco Authority to upgrade its network across 150 radio sites.

The five-year agreement will cover radio sites used by the emergency services and other public agencies, and will also see Motorola add another 23 sites in the North-West of the Australian state.

The deal is part of a decade-long strategy announced a year ago which will see agencies unify their telecoms budget and resources across a single model.

The upgrade is part of the NSW Operational Communications Strategy and the Critical Communications Enhancement Program. The latter is a $63 million project aimed at boosting technology used by frontline emergency service personnel.

“The project will provide New South Wales agencies with trusted voice communications and resilient performance so they can perform their essential daily work safely and efficiently,” said Motorola Solutions MD for Australia and Europe.

“User agencies will also receive up-to-date radio technology for the next five years and beyond, as well as the flexibility to introduce next generation capabilities over time. This includes digital radios that provide a richer set of features including location and mapping data, improved security, extended coverage and new and emerging applications to keep New South Wales agencies at the forefront of innovation.”

Along with the network upgrade, NSW TA has also deployed Motorola’s WAVE application within its audio network. WAVE extends the reach and capability of radio communications to team members carrying smartphones and tablets.
