Airtel Nigeria partners with Aviat for microwave deal

Airtel Nigeria has partner with Aviat Networks to roll out its microwave networking solutions for enterprise customers.

Aviat will deliver CTR microwave routers, poin-to-point/multipoint radios, and applications such as network monitoring and proactive and corrective maintenance, acting as a countrywide managed service partner (MSP).

California-based Aviat claims to have sold more than one million microwave systems in more than 170 countries worldwide. It said it expects to begin offering Airtel customers its products this quarter.

In September, it won a $28 million contract to implement a network throughout Colorado.

"Enterprise connections are seen by mobile operators as strategic as operators must go beyond traditional services and into higher value services to enable ARPU growth," said Michael Pangia, president and CEO, Aviat Networks.

"Our broad portfolio for enterprise connectivity including products and services can help enable operators to provide these strategic services."

The deal comes just days after Bharti Airtel increased its stake in its Nigerian arm to 83.25% after buying Econet Wireless’s 4.2% stake in the operator for $127 million.

Airtel Nigeria enterprise director Tawa Bolarin said: “Airtel is very proud to partner with Aviat Networks in Nigeria with its 50-year history in the microwave industry and trusted expertise in radios, architecting networks and enabling service delivery.”
