Hurricane Electric launches new PoP at Equinix PH1 IBX data centre

Hurricane Electric has expanded its network by establishing a point of presence (PoP) at Equinix’s PH1 IBX data centre in Philadelphia.

The launch makes it the first PoP in Pennsylvania for the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, which last month became the first France-IX Marseille marketplace partner. PH1 is located on North Broad Street in downtown Philadelphia and offers more than 26,000 sq ft of colocation space, supplying premium connectivity, interconnection and support services to a wide range of digital ecosystems.

The PoP will also provide access to the company’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE and 1GE ports and as a result, both new and existing customers will be able to experience increased throughput, reduced latency and improved reliability.

“As Philadelphia continues to cultivate one of the country’s fastest growing markets for a variety of technology industries, we’ve seen a strong rise in demand for affordable high-speed IP transit in the area,” said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric.

“The launch of our first point of presence in Pennsylvania is a major step toward meeting this critical need. We plan to continue building our presence throughout the mid-Atlantic in order to help support businesses as they increase their capacity and drive growth in the region.”

The latest PoP will off PH1 tenants the opportunity to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network. Hurricane Electric has over 17,000 BGP sessions with over 5,800 different networks via more than 151 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.

Equinix states PH1 is: “One of the many state-of-the-art IBX centres in key metropolitan areas throughout North America that offer a full range of premium colocation, interconnection and support services to a wide range of secure digital ecosystems built by networks, enterprises, content, cloud and IT services, companies and financial institutions.”
