Viavi in multi-carrier bandwidth-on-demand demo

Viavi has collaborated with Tier-1 international communications and cloud service providers to demonstrate a multi-carrier, multi-platform proof of concept (PoC) for bandwidth-on-demand services.

The demonstration with network function virtualisation (NFV) pioneers - Comcast, Telecom Italia Sparkle and Tata Communications - at MEF16 in Baltimore, shows how the technology can run automatic service activation and performance tests, remotely, without the need to dispatch a technician. It will reduce the time it takes operators to address network problems and enhance Quality of Service.

“Network technology is well down the path of virtualisation, and all members of the ecosystem need to adapt accordingly,” said Kevin Oliver, vice president and general manager of converged instruments and virtual test at Viavi Solutions.

“However, there are two market requirements that must also drive development: interoperability, and streamlined ability to address hybrid configurations of physical and virtual networks. With our broad range of legacy test equipment and our innovations in virtualization we are well positioned to bring both worlds together.”

A demo of virtualised test and assurance of Layer 1-4 connectivity and service quality will also be demonstrated, also showing how a circuit may be ordered via a web portal that would be provisioned through three different carriers and run via a data centre based in another continent.
