NTT Com launches APAC optical subsea cable network

NTT Communications has launched the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG), a 10,400km high-bandwidth subsea cable network connecting countries in Asia.

APG will us 100Gbps optical transmission capabilities to deliver more than 54Tbps, the highest capacity of any network in the region, according to NTT.

It has been launched as part of a consortium involving 11 leading carriers in the Asia Pacific region, along with social media giant Facebook. It has been built by NEC.

The cable takes a route aimed at avoiding earthquake hotspots in the region, with connectivity points in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The APG will also connect with Pacific Crossing-1, which links Japan and the US, through two diverse landing points in the East and West of NTT’s home market. The Hong Kong and Singapore landing points will also connect APG with the Asia Submarine-Cable Express, which was launched in August 2012.
