Cleareon acquires Ethernet SP Pangaea Networks

Cleareon Fiber Networks has acquired metro Ethernet service provider Pangaea Networks for an undisclosed fee.

The New York-based dark fibre provider said increasing demand for network capacity, speed and security drove Cleareon to buy Pangaea, which operates metro networks in the New York and New Jersey region.

Cleareon connects to thousands of large enterprise buildings, carrier hotels, peering facilities and data centres in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The firm said that the acquisition expands its facilities, and on-net sites, creating a complete optical fibre, Ethernet and wavelength offering for carriers and large enterprise customers.

"We are very excited about how this acquisition fits our plans for the future and how well the Pangaea team and assets synergize with Cleareon,” said Cleareon co-CEO Cliff Kane. “Now, in addition to our dark fibre offering, Cleareon is able to provide Ethernet and wavelength services under our service assurance layer.

"With Pangaea we are in a better position to address existing demand for access and transport, as well as, nascent opportunities in cloud, densification and IoT."

Earlier this month, Cleareon announced its points of presence in New York City and New Jersey were ready to offer dark fibre and Ethernet services.
