Telenor’s Furberg appointed CEO of Grameenphone

The board of directors at Bangladesh mobile operator Grameenphone, part of the Telenor Group, has appointed Petter-Børre Furberg as interim CEO, effective 1 November 2016.

Furberg, who will also serve as a member of Telenor Group’s executive management team, replaces Rajiv Sethi who has quit the company after nearly two years at the helm to pursue new opportunities. 

Furberg joined Telenor in 1998 and has since served as head of financial services at Telenor Group, CMO and CFO of dtac, Telenor Myanmar’s CEO, and most recently SVP of Telenor Digital Business,

The Grameenphone board of directors will now initiate a process to identify a permanent solution for the CEO position.

Telenor presently owns 55.8% of Grameenphone, which launched in 1997 and was the first Telenor venture in the Asian market, is the largest mobile operator in Bangladesh.
