Sprint to launch software-defined WAN with VeloCloud

Sprint has announced plans to try out software-defined WAN services that it says will enable enterprises to manage corporate networks more efficiently.

The US company plans to start customer trials with VeloCloud, which it describes as “a leader in software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) solutions”, and adds that “a global launch [is] planned for early 2017”.

Mike Fitz, vice president of the Sprint global wireline business unit, said that the solution is “best aligned with Sprint’s focus on network agility, flexibility and cloud services enablement”.

The aim is to allow companies to move voice, data, and video to the same all-IP network, accelerating adoption of cloud services.

“Sprint SD-WAN will transform the way our business customers use their network,” said Fitz. “SD-WAN enables enterprises to lower their network costs while dynamically supporting converged services such as SIP trunking, cloud services, and hosted applications.”

Sprint set up its global wireline business unit earlier this year to focus on providing business customers with an all-IP global network.

“SD-WAN will enable our business customers to rapidly deploy these emerging technologies while maintaining their existing infrastructure investments,” Fitz said.
