I.C.E. Toronto data centre launched

I.C.E. Datacenters has opened a new 41,000 sq ft data centre in Markham to provide a “real alternative” to downtown Toronto, Canada.

The carrier-neutral and independent provider of network-centric data centres hosted its grand opening of I.C.E Toronto, now its flagship facility, earlier this month and the Markham site is designed to Tier3 Uptime Institute standards. It has access of 8MW of power, expandable to 16MW, from two independent substations.

“Toronto has developed into a major metropolis, North America’s 4th largest, and one of its fastest growing cities. This growth has brought significant concentration and single-point-of-failure risks onto the supporting communication infrastructure; in particular with the vast majority of IP traffic being single-threaded through downtown Toronto,” said ,” says Michael Bucheit, CEO of I.C.E Datacenters.

“We address this massive business vulnerability at I.C.E Markham. We offer the same level of access to the global interconnect community, which includes national and multi-national carriers, ISPs and content and cloud providers while providing uncompromised geographic diversity to downtown Toronto.”

The facility has access to diverse carrier and fibre path solutions outside the downtown core and has a redundant dark fibre loop from Markham to downtown Toronto and high capacity diverse connectivity to Montreal.

Bill Henneberry, vice president of technology and operations at I.C.E Datacenters, added: “Our clients are looked after by a seasoned executive and operations team with 60+ years of data centre and fibre network management expertise serving a global customer base in Canada, the U.S., and Europe. We are proud to bring our experience and resources to the GTA and help Toronto businesses continue to grow.”
