Ericsson appoints Ewaldsson in strategy role

Ericsson has appointed CTO and head of group function technology Ulf Ewaldsson as Group head of strategy and technology in a reshuffle of its top team.

Ewaldsson joined Ericsson in 1990 and has held positions for the Swedish firm in China, Japan, Hungary and Sweden. He became VP and head of PA radio in 2007, before taking up his role as Group CTO in February 2012.

Current chief strategy officer Rima Qureshi took over the Swedish infrastructure firm’s North American arm in July and has held both roles since. Ericsson said she will continue to oversee its strategic partnership with Cisco.

Both will continue as members of Ericsson’s executive leadership team, reporting directly to CEO Jan Frykhammar.

"This move is a natural step as Rima focuses fully on driving the business development and customer relationships in one of the most advanced technology markets in the world,” Frykhammar said.

“In the rapid technology development and transformation of our industry it makes perfect sense to combine technology strategy and strategy development into one process.”
