The regulator has asked the Central Administrative Court to force True Move and DPC to pay B1.07 billion (£23.5m) and B627 billion (£14 million) respectively for revenue earned from customers still using 2G mobile networks on 1800MHz spectrum under agreements that ran out in September 2013.
NBTC calculated the rates based on revenue after operating costs earned between the expiry of the concession agreements and July 2014. The regulator sent an administrative order to the operators in September 2015, demanding payment within 30 days.
Both companies contested the sums, arguing that their operating costs were much higher than NBTC had calculated, according to the Bangkok Post.
NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said: “We decided to file a lawsuit with the court yesterday seeking money from the two companies as the statute of limitations is approaching.”
