DE-CIX launches internet exchange in Dallas

DE-CIX has launched a carrier and data centre-neutral internet exchange in Dallas, in response to the region’s growing digital vitality.

The company is responding to an increasing need for reliable interconnection platforms as a result of the growing consumer demand for clear voice over IP, and services such as video, gaming and cloud.

“Being the first internet exchange of its kind in the Dallas market, we anticipate strong demand from content networks, internet service providers, regional ISPs and enterprise customers,” said Ed d’Agostino, vice president of DE-CIX North America.

“Our initial research shows that there is tremendous need for a neutral internet exchange that provides access at data centres throughout the area, thus providing a reliable, quality interconnection and peering point to a broader segment of the market.”

The internet exchange is at Infomart, the main carrier hotel in Dallas, a location that offers the highest density of data centres, carriers and ISPs.

DE-CIX says it will provide peering exchange services throughout this community and, ultimately, to an even larger community of networks and data centres beyond the existing location.

The company says that, while Dallas is the centre of an extensive telecommunications network and a vital juncture for many networks and cable systems, its interconnection platforms have lagged behind.

DE-CIX has proven its success in numerous global markets including New York. Since its launch just two years ago, DE-CIX New York has deployed and now manages 10 switches throughout the New York/New Jersey metro area. In-house riser fibre provides access to 135+ networks located across multiple carrier hotels within that market.
